JobsNational Campaign InternEARTHWORKS (formerly Mineral Policy Center) is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting communities and the environment from irresponsible mineral development in the U.S. and abroad. Earthworks is based in Washington, DC and has field offices in Missoula, Montana and Tucson, Arizona. The hardrock, or metals, mining industry is the largest toxic polluter in the United States. Federal and state environmental laws and regulations intended to govern the industry do not adequately protect communities and the environment from mining pollution. EARTHWORKS is dedicated to meaningful reform the laws that govern mining on public lands in order to hold mining companies accountable for their actions. EARTHWORKS, in conjunction with national, state and local partners, works to ensure that Western communities, water resources, and special places in the West are protected from the adverse impacts of mining. A National Campaign Intern will be very involved both in research, campaign and legislative activities to assist in the promotion of pro-environmental reform of mining at the national level. Interns should be interested in U.S. political issues in general and in the environment in particular. This intern will have to be prepared to react to a changing work role, as legislative activities are dictated in large part by what is happening in Congress. The workload will increase around congressional votes on relevant issues. Activities may include any and all of the following:
We are currently seeking a full-time intern for Spring/Summer 2007. The position requires an advanced undergraduate, graduate student or recent grad with strong writing and research skills, self-motivation, excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills, and a commitment to environmental protection. The salary is $900 per month. The position is open until filled and will be based in our Washington, DC office. The start and end dates are flexible.
